What we do
We’re based in Folkestone and work across Kent, from Dover and Deal to Ashford, Canterbury, Thanet and Maidstone. One company handles the whole job:
- New fire alarm systems for new builds, refurbishments and changes of use
- Upgrades and extensions to existing systems
- Inspection and servicing about every six months, fault finding and repairs
- Takeovers of systems installed by other companies
- Wireless systems (Ajax EN54) for listed and occupied buildings
- Connection to an alarm receiving centre for 24-hour monitoring
- Emergency lighting to BS 5266-1:2025
Systems we fit
We install conventional, addressable and wireless systems, including panels from Advanced and Kentec (based in Dartford, Kent) and the Ajax EN54 wireless range. We’re a Kentec Installation Partner (KIP), and Kentec is what we use for many of our addressable systems. We service and maintain most other makes too.
All four BAFE SP203-1 modules
BAFE SP203-1 is a third-party certification scheme for fire detection and alarm systems. It’s split into four modules, and a company can hold any combination of them. We hold all four, audited by NSI.

In Kent, crews usually need a fire confirmed before they’re sent
Kent Fire and Rescue Service doesn’t automatically send crews to automatic fire alarms. For most premises, the caller has to confirm a fire, or signs of fire, before crews are mobilised, and since April 2013 that has applied day and night. Sheltered housing and premises with an individual risk assessment are handled differently, and care homes, hospitals and hospices should check their current arrangement with KFRS directly.
So in most buildings an alarm on its own, even one monitored by an alarm receiving centre, won’t bring a fire engine. Someone has to check and call 999. That makes three things matter:
- A fire procedure that says who checks, how, and who calls 999, without putting anyone at risk
- A panel and zone plan that show clearly where the alarm came from
- Keyholders who can be reached, and know where to go when they arrive
We design for all three. On Ajax EN54 systems, FireFind shows the person responding which detector has operated, on the building’s own floor plan.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service policy
For most premises, callers reporting an automatic fire alarm must confirm a fire or signs of fire before crews are sent. This has applied 24 hours a day since 2 April 2013.

Four questions to ask any fire alarm installer
Ask these four questions before you choose a fire alarm company. Here are our answers.
Are you BAFE SP203-1 certified for the work?
Yes. We're BAFE SP203-1 Registered Organisation No. 303674 for all four modules — Design, Installation, Commissioning/Handover and Maintenance — third-party certificated by NSI. You can check any installer on the BAFE register, including us.
Will the design comply with BS 5839?
Yes. Non-domestic systems are designed to BS 5839-1:2025 and homes and HMOs to BS 5839-6:2019+A1:2020, at the category your fire risk assessment sets. Any variation from the standard is agreed with you and written down.
Are design, installation, commissioning and certification included?
Yes, from one company. On completion you receive certificates of design, installation and commissioning, an operation and maintenance manual, as-fitted drawings, a wireless signal report for wireless systems, an on-site logbook, acceptance and agreed variations certificates, and a framed zone plan mounted beside the panel. See the full paperwork list.
What ongoing testing and maintenance do you offer?
Inspection and servicing about every six months to BS 5839-1:2025, a servicing certificate and logbook entry each visit, fault call-outs, and a 24/7 support line for contracted customers. How our servicing works.

What our customers say
We have 120+ five-star Google reviews across all our work. A few longer testimonials are below, each labelled with the job it’s about; read all our reviews on Google.
“From planning to completion, Nova Security have been a delight to work with. The team consisting of Georgie, Ricky and Alex have helped make this complex project seem extremely simple with their extensive knowledge and experience. The underground automation aspect of the project was a huge concern for me, but with Nova Security in tow, the project went extremely well with no issues.”
“Fantastic job! Was given their number by a friend after being let down by so many other companies. Wanted the alarm renewed before Christmas, Ricky managed to fit us in and fit a new system within 2 weeks of us phoning him. Very tidy workers, did exactly as we asked and added their own input into the alarm system to upgrade it.”
“I would absolutely recommend Nova Security for a small business such as ourselves. Fantastic on service, advice, professionalism and really good value for money on what they provide and the individual packages they offer.”
“Proper job. Georgie and her team at Nova Security have just completed an excellent job automating our garden gates to allow easier access by mobility scooter. Quote was very reasonable and the work finished on time and to a high standard. I have no hesitation in recommending Nova Security.”
“We recently had Nova install a new CCTV system and the experience was flawless from start to finish. From the initial enquiry call with Georgie to the site visit where Ricky talked through our options, the team was incredibly friendly and professional. The installers, Alex and Jack, arrived on time, completed the work efficiently, and left the premises spotless. The support hasn’t stopped there, though; the aftercare has been brilliant, especially with the help provided to get all the cameras set up. We highly recommend Nova to anyone looking for a seamless and reliable service. Thank you.”

Fire alarm questions
Do I legally need a fire alarm for my business?
In most non-domestic premises, yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must carry out a fire risk assessment and, where necessary, make sure the premises have appropriate fire detection and fire alarms (article 13), then keep them maintained in efficient working order (article 17). Your fire risk assessment decides what kind of system you need; in very small, simple premises that can be as little as a manual means of raising the alarm.
How often should a fire alarm be serviced?
BS 5839-1:2025 recommends inspection and servicing by a competent person at intervals of approximately six months. A visit between five and seven months after the previous one is acceptable, and your fire risk assessment may call for more. Someone on site should also test a different call point every week and record it in the logbook. How our servicing works.
What is BS 5839-1:2025?
It’s the British Standard code of practice for fire detection and fire alarm systems in non-domestic buildings. It came into effect on 30 April 2025, replacing BS 5839-1:2017, and covers design, installation, commissioning and maintenance. What changed in 2025.
Which category of fire alarm do I need?
Your fire risk assessment sets it: M for manual systems, L1 to L5 for life protection or P1 and P2 for property protection. We design to the category you need and can talk you through the options. What fire alarm category do I need?
Conventional, addressable or wireless: which is best?
A conventional system tells you which zone a fire is in. An addressable system identifies the exact device, which makes larger buildings much easier to manage. A wireless system uses radio devices certified to EN 54-25, so there’s far less cabling and disruption. We’ll recommend what suits your building and budget at the survey. More on addressable systems · more on wireless systems.
Can you take over a fire alarm another company installed?
Yes. We take over most makes of system that are still serviceable. We start with a full inspection, rebuild missing records such as the zone plan, drawings and logbook, and can transfer your monitoring contract.
How much does a fire alarm system cost?
It depends on the size of the building, the category, the type of system and how much disruption you can accept. Rather than guess, we carry out a free site survey and give you a clear, fixed price.
How long does an installation take?
Most commercial installations take between three and ten working days on site, depending on size. We phase the work around your trading hours.
Will the fire service come when my alarm goes off?
Not automatically. For most premises, Kent Fire and Rescue Service asks callers to confirm a fire, or signs of fire, before it sends crews to an automatic fire alarm, day and night. Your fire procedure needs to cover who checks and who calls 999. What Kent’s policy means for you.
Can my fire alarm be monitored?
Yes. We can connect your system to an alarm receiving centre so fire signals are passed on day and night and keyholders are contacted. For Ajax EN54 systems, FireFind also shows keyholders which detector has operated.
Are you BAFE registered?
Yes. We’re BAFE SP203-1 Registered Organisation No. 303674 for Design, Installation, Commissioning/Handover and Maintenance, third-party certificated by NSI. How to check a company on the BAFE register.
