Nova Relay: secure remote access to any system

Can’t reach your CCTV or alarm panel because the site is on 4G, behind CGNAT, or on an IT network that won’t open ports? Nova Relay connects it securely, without port forwarding or a static IP, and works with anything on the network, not just cameras.

The problem

Remote access usually depends on port forwarding through the site’s router to a fixed public IP address. More and more sites can’t do that:

  • 4G connections: most SIM cards sit behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), with no public address of their own.
  • Broadband behind CGNAT: some providers share addresses between customers too.
  • Locked-down IT networks: in offices, schools and managed buildings, IT won’t open ports or expose devices to the internet, and rightly so.

The result: an installer can’t support the system remotely, the owner can’t see their cameras, and a monitoring centre can’t connect, so the site can’t be monitored.

How Nova Relay works

  • A Teltonika router on site. Industrial routers with 4G built in. They can use their own SIM or sit on the existing network.
  • An outbound, encrypted connection from the router to our Nova Relay server. Because it starts from the site, CGNAT and firewalls don’t block it.
  • You connect through the relay. Authorised users, engineers and monitoring centres reach the devices on site through a secure address. Nothing on the site is exposed to the internet.
  • Any device. CCTV, alarm panels, access control, intercoms, gate controllers, building management: if it’s on the network, it can be reached.

Setting it up

  1. Tell us what you need to reach

Cameras, panels, gates, or the whole site, and who needs access.

  2. We fit the router

A Teltonika 4G router, with a data SIM if the site has no suitable connection, set up and tested before we leave.

  3. Connect from anywhere

Your app, our engineers or your monitoring centre connect through Nova Relay. Access is added or removed whenever you need.

Who it’s for

  • Remote and temporary sites: construction sites, car parks, farms, storage yards and compounds on 4G.
  • Monitored CCTV where the site has no fixed IP address. Monitoring and police response
  • Shared and managed buildings, where the IT network can’t be opened up.
  • Other installers who need reliable remote access to systems they look after.

Questions

What is CGNAT, and why does it stop remote access?

Carrier-grade NAT means your connection shares a public IP address with other customers. Most 4G SIM cards and some broadband connections use it. Because the address isn’t yours, nothing outside can connect in, so port forwarding doesn’t work and you can’t reach your cameras or panels remotely. Nova Relay gets round this because the connection starts from your site.

Will the client’s IT department need to open ports or change their firewall?

No ports need opening and nothing on their network is exposed to the internet. The router only makes an outbound connection. Many sites avoid the IT network altogether by using the router’s built-in 4G, so the security systems are kept separate.

Is it only for CCTV?

No. It works with anything that has a network connection: CCTV recorders and cameras, intruder and fire panels’ remote software, access control, door entry, gate and barrier controllers, building management systems and more.

Can a monitoring centre use it?

Yes. Alarm receiving centres connect through Nova Relay with their usual software, so CCTV on a 4G site can be remotely monitored just like a site with a fixed IP address.

Is it secure?

The connection is encrypted and starts from your site, so there are no open ports for anyone to find. Only the people and monitoring centres you approve can connect, and access can be removed at any time.

What does it cost?

It depends on the router, whether you need a data SIM and how many devices you need to reach. Call us and we’ll give you a clear monthly price.
