What is Reconeyez?

A wireless, battery-powered alarm that takes photos. When something moves within 35 metres of a detector, it photographs it, AI checks the photos for people and vehicles, and verified alarms reach a monitoring centre or your phone in about 10 seconds, by Reconeyez’s figures. It needs no mains power, no cables and no internet line.

Security for sites with no power and no internet

  • No mains power: every device runs on its own rechargeable battery, and solar panels keep them going on long jobs
  • No internet line or WiFi: a 4G Bridge sends alarms over the mobile network
  • No cables: detectors link to the Bridge by radio, up to 500 metres away in line of sight
  • Fewer false alarms: AI checks every photo, and wildlife and moving plants are filtered out before they reach an operator
  • Moves with the job: detectors fix to fencing, poles, cabins and buildings, and move as the site changes
  • Built for the weather: detectors, Bridges and sirens are sealed to IP67 and rated from −40 °C to +60 °C

How Reconeyez works

  1. Detect

A motion sensor in each detector picks up movement up to 35 metres away, day or night.

  2. Photograph

The detector photographs it: full HD colour by day, infrared at night, up to 10 photos each time.

  3. Check

The photos go to the Reconeyez Cloud, where AI looks for people and vehicles. Wildlife and moving plants are classed separately and kept away from the operators.

  4. Alert

Verified alarms reach a 24/7 monitoring centre, the Reconeyez app, or both, in about 10 seconds by Reconeyez’s figures.

  5. Respond

The siren and beacon can sound, and the operator follows your plan: keyholders or a mobile response service.

Where Reconeyez is used

  • A Reconeyez detector fixed to a steel mesh walkway on a construction site

    Construction sites and compounds

Protect plant, tools, cabins, fuel and materials from the day the hoarding goes up, before there’s any power on site. Detectors fix to Heras fencing, hoarding, cabins and scaffold, and move as the build progresses.

  • A Reconeyez detector fixed under the eaves of an empty, weathered building

    Empty and void buildings

Houses, shops, offices and pubs between tenants or waiting for redevelopment: a visible siren and light to deter, or detectors tucked out of sight, with no need for the power to be on.

  • A Reconeyez detector mounted on solar panel racking over a solar farm

    Solar farms and substations

Reconeyez’s fastest-growing use, by its own account: protecting cable and equipment where there’s no power or network to connect to. Detectors fix to the racking without changing it.

  • Fly-tipping hotspots, farms and vineyards: number plate detectors photograph vehicles coming onto your land
  • Pumping stations, reservoirs and utilities: Severn Trent Water uses Reconeyez at more than 50 high-risk sites
  • Depots, storage yards and car parks: out-of-hours protection without running power across the yard
  • Land awaiting development: deter dumping, trespass and theft
  • Estates, golf clubs and large grounds: cover remote outbuildings and boundaries
  • Short-term risks: a spate of break-ins or a gap between contracts, from 8 weeks

Reconeyez Sentinel: a security tower that needs no power

Sentinel puts four Reconeyez detectors, a 4G Bridge, a siren, a solar panel and a solar-powered light on one tripod. Each detector faces outwards and reaches 35 metres, so one tower watches a 70-metre-wide area. It’s 2.3 metres tall, Reconeyez says it deploys in about 20 minutes, and the colours and branding can be customised.

Use it where there’s nothing to fix to: open ground, car parks and the middle of a compound. There’s no fuel to top up and no generator to steal.

A UK example

Anchor Group Services put 14 Reconeyez towers across two locations, cut its security hours by around 168 a week, and said it was saving more than £100,000 a year. A 4G CCTV alternative would have added over £5,000 a year in airtime. Source: Reconeyez case study.

Built for borders, used on UK sites

Reconeyez grew out of technology developed for the Estonian Border Guard to protect remote stretches of the border, and the company has protected the Estonian–Russian border since 2010. The Reconeyez brand launched in 2018, opened a UK office in 2020, and is now part of VOSKER.

Reconeyez says its systems are used in more than 60 countries, with more than 30,000 active devices. In the UK, users include Severn Trent Water at more than 50 high-risk sites, construction and void property security firms, and solar farm operators.

Site security questions

What is Reconeyez?

A wireless, battery-powered alarm that takes photos. Each detector has a motion sensor and a camera: when something moves within 35 metres, it photographs it, AI checks the photos for people and vehicles, and verified alarms go to a monitoring centre or your phone in about 10 seconds, by Reconeyez’s figures. It needs no mains power, no cables and no internet line.

How can I protect a site with no power?

With equipment that brings its own. Every Reconeyez detector, siren and Bridge runs on rechargeable batteries, and solar panels can keep them charged on long jobs, so nothing needs a generator or a mains supply.

Does it need WiFi or an internet line?

No. A Reconeyez Bridge sends alarms over the 4G mobile network, and the detectors talk to the Bridge by radio. Reconeyez’s own SIM isn’t locked to one network, so it can use whichever has signal.

What if there’s no mobile signal on site?

We check the signal at the survey. The Bridge can go wherever the signal is best, up to 500 metres from the detectors in line of sight. If there’s no usable signal anywhere on site, we’ll tell you, and suggest another way to protect it.

How long do the batteries last?

Reconeyez rates each detector at up to 400 days on standby; a busy site with lots of movement uses more. The Bridge, which sends the alarms over 4G, is rated at up to 150 days, so on longer jobs it’s worth adding a solar panel. Battery levels show in the Reconeyez Cloud, so batteries can be swapped before they run flat, and the devices stay sealed to IP67 while they’re changed.

Does it work at night?

Yes. At night the detectors take infrared photos, 1280 × 960 pixels, lit by their own infrared illuminator, so the site needs no lighting.

Does Reconeyez record video?

No. It takes still photos each time it detects movement (up to 10, set per detector), which is how it runs on batteries for months. Monitoring software can play a burst back as a short clip. For continuous recording or live video, we install CCTV, including on 4G.

How quickly can it be installed?

Quickly. Reconeyez devices come set up, and Reconeyez quotes about two minutes per detector and about 20 minutes for a Sentinel tower once on site. Most of the work is planning where everything goes, which we do at the survey.

How many detectors does my site need?

It depends on the size and shape of the site and what needs protecting. Each detector sees up to 35 metres, in a zone that’s wide close to the detector and narrows with distance, and one Bridge serves up to eight detectors or sirens. We plan the coverage at a free survey.

Can I rent Reconeyez rather than buy it?

Yes. We rent Reconeyez for a minimum of 8 weeks, or you can buy it outright.

Who monitors it, and what happens when it goes off?

You choose: a 24/7 alarm receiving centre, the Reconeyez app on your phone, or both. When a verified alarm comes in, operators see the photos within seconds, can sound the siren, and follow your response plan, such as calling keyholders or a mobile response service.

Will the police respond?

Not automatically. Reconeyez isn’t a police-response (URN) system, so your response plan decides who goes, such as keyholders or a response service. If an operator sees a crime in progress, they can report it to the police. For police response at a permanent site, ask us about an NSI-approved intruder alarm.

How does the AI stop false alarms?

Each alarm photo is checked by AI that labels people, vehicles and animals. Photos of wildlife or moving plants are classed separately and not sent to the monitoring centre, and you can mark parts of a picture to ignore, such as a road outside the fence. Reconeyez says this cuts false alarms by up to 95%.

What if someone tries to steal or damage a detector?

A detector that’s tampered with raises an alarm and takes a photo, and detectors can be fixed with security nuts and bolts.

Do I need signs, and does GDPR apply?

Yes. Photos of people are personal data, so put up signs saying the site is monitored, by whom and why, and don’t keep photos longer than you need. The Reconeyez Cloud keeps alarm photos for up to 30 days, and you can set it shorter. CCTV and data protection explained.

Can it go to our existing monitoring centre?

Usually, yes. Reconeyez connects to the platforms UK alarm receiving centres use, including Sentinel, Immix, Evalink, SureView, Manitou and SIA DC-09.

Can it help stop fly-tipping?

Yes. Number plate detectors photograph vehicles coming onto your land, best where they’re moving slowly (under about 15 mph), so you have pictures of the vehicle and its plate to give to the council or police.

Can it take progress photos of the build?

Yes, as an extra: a detector can take time-lapse photos at set intervals. A detector in time-lapse mode isn’t guarding, so security needs its own detectors.

Is it cheaper than a security guard?

It does a different job: it detects, checks and deters around the clock, and a person responds when it’s needed. In a Reconeyez case study, Anchor Group Services cut its security hours by around 168 a week and said it was saving more than £100,000 a year.

How much does site security cost?

It depends on how many detectors, sirens and Bridges your site needs, whether you buy or rent, and the monitoring. Rental is for a minimum of 8 weeks. Send us a site plan or book a free survey, and we’ll give you a clear price.
