A fire alarm for a woodwork workshop in Ashford
For a commercial woodwork workshop in Ashford, we installed a conventional fire alarm panel with Apollo Series 65 detectors: a simple installation, done properly.

The right system for the building
Not every building needs an addressable system. This workshop called for a conventional fire alarm panel and Apollo Series 65 detectors, installed with the cables run neatly in conduit along the metal cladding.
What we installed
- A conventional fire alarm control panel, mounted on the workshop’s equipment board.
- Apollo Series 65 detectors, such as the heat detector on the profiled metal ceiling.
- Manual call points, including one beside the roller shutter door.
- Cables in white conduit, fixed neatly along the walls and ceiling.

Questions
When is a conventional fire alarm the right choice?
For smaller, simpler buildings like this workshop. A conventional system divides the building into zones and shows which zone has operated; an addressable system pinpoints the exact device, which matters more as buildings get bigger. Addressable fire alarms.
Why do workshops often have heat detectors?
Sawdust, fumes and steam can set off smoke detectors, so areas where they are normal usually get heat detectors instead. Which detector goes where is part of the fire alarm design.
